[hr] Dan Sugi | Character Detective – Musical Director
Originally from Chicago, Dan came out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. After two years at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts Dan was cast in back to back shows at South Coast Repertory Theatre in Costa Mesa. Taking advantage mostly of the musical experience/teaching he received at both The Academy and South Coast he found his way to the creative minds behind The Creating Arts Company; playing a part in every show the company has produced so far (except for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe). As Musical Director of the company he plays a key role in rehearsing the musical numbers for the shows. From harmonies to tempos he works alongside all of the talented (most of which are already proficient in vocal production techniques) CAC performers to ensure exceptional singing. Dan also wrote the music and lyrics for CAC’s first original production ‘The Boondoggles’ with book and story by the company’s Artistic Director Shannon Sukovaty.
Some favorite roles:
Scarecrow – The Wizard Of Oz
Lumiere – Beauty and The Beast
Colton The Cowboy – The Boondoggles
He feels blessed to be a part of such an amazing company and is thankful for the support of his family back home.
[hr] Maya McKenzie | Vocal Valkyrie – Vocal Director
Founding Member and Co-Managing Director, Maya McKenzie is the official Vocal Valkyrie and Vocal Director of Creating Arts Company.
There is moment when your passions become so intense, that simply speaking your mind is not enough. A breaking point occurs when you become so engulfed with emotions that the only form of communication strong enough is song. This threshold between speech and singing is where the Vocal Valkyrie thrives.
An actor, singer, and dancer, currently working mostly in the LA area, Maya has been performing regularly for the past 20+ years all over the United States. She is a passionate, positive and professional force of nature who believes in working hard, and playing harder. As a descendant from carnies and actors a life on the stage was inevitable for this mischievous theatre nymph.
Maya is a highly experienced singer trained in many different genres including but not limited to, Musical Theatre, Opera, Jazz, Blues, Jug Band and Bubblegum Pop. She has been both a student and teacher of Shakespeare, Improv and Stage Combat. Some of her most recent and favourite roles include- Lumiere and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Alice in Wonderland, Ursula in The Little Mermaid, as well as a Hot Box Dancer in Guys and Dolls, and Soupy Sue in Urinetown the Musical.
Having worked with children for the past 6 years she believes that the arts are an essential part of self-discovery. Her mission is to help create happy productive children by being a positive and supportive role model in their lives, and to help them grow to their full potential.
When Maya is not on stage (which is rare) she can be found exploring the universe to its outer most boundaries. She loves breathing fire, playing wash tub bass and ukulele, and riding around on unicycles. Be it cliff jumping, rock climbing, wrestling waves at the beach, or practicing yoga, no extreme is too extreme.
Maya looks forward to all the exciting magic the universe has in store for her and can’t wait for whatever adventures are waiting just around the river bend.
